I feel like this speech was more about what hasn't been done, than what we're going to do. Let the proffesionals throw out all the other bullshit. They are already talking about the presidential race again, with the words "State of the Union" on the bottom of the screen. Nice huh?
Still the moment tonight has a purpose. It presents a rare oppertunity to really think about the very structure of our government and our country. In attendence today were both houses of congress, 4 supreme court justices, the vice president, the joint cheifs, the cabinet, the president's family, and many other diplomats and dignitaries. Together they sit, and listen to the president agenda, embrace it or not, it's quite simly NEAT!
Also, Kansas, Democratic Governor - nice!

I'd be very interested in that article you mentioned on my blog.
The State of the Union...I tried to watch it, really I did. I always try. And, as always, I gave up about halfway through. It's such a dog and pony show it makes me sick. Every time they get up and clap (especially if it's only the President's party rising to the occasion) my stomach turns. Why in hell should a 25 minute speech take two hours!?
I guess I'm just not one for pomp and circumstance, cut through the fat and give me the meat!
I can firmly admit that my State of the Union Party's in college were some of the worst attended social events on campus. Further, even fewer numbers of people learned the fun way to watch the speech - by drinking each time an applause is evolked.
Last time I checked, there was a lot more fat than meat in Washington.
